$36 Million Brain Injury Jury Verdict

 

Jury verdict against the Cook County Sheriff in favor of a 51 year old mother of two who sustained severe brain stem injury causing quadriplegia and cranial nerve injuries when she was broadsided by a Sheriff's Police officer traveling through a red light at approximately 70 miles per hour. The plaintiff was required to prove, and the jury found, that the officer's conduct was willful and wanton.

October 26, 2007 - $2.43 million Settlement reached in post Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass leak case

Partners Karen McNulty Enright and Paul L. Salzetta recently settled a case involving a leak following a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery for $2,437,500.00. Negligence was alleged on the part of surgical residents as well as the attending surgeon in failing to identify the presence of a leak in the remnant stomach pouch within a reasonable time following the gastric bypass surgery. As a result, the decedent was overcome by peritoneal infection and sepsis, and ultimately died in the hospital on August 6, 2001. The defendant hospital settled for $2.25 million immediately prior to trial and the defendant surgeon settled one week into the trial.  See the Settlement Report here.

June 7, 2007 - Karen McNulty Enright installed as WBAI President
Karen McNulty Enright was installed as the President of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) at its 93rd Annual Installation Dinner on June 7, 2007.  The WBAI was established in 1914 by nine women lawyers in the Chicago area.  It was founded to promote the interests and welfare of women lawyers and also to aid in the enactment of legislation for the common good and administration of justice.  Today, the WBAI has over 2000 members and continues its original mission.

May 2007 - Police Shooting Settlement
John F. Winters, Jr. recently settled a lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana against the Village of Lake Station, Indiana for the fatal shooting of a young man by one of the village's police officers in March 2002.  See the Northwest Indiana Times account here.
